Iran plots drone strike on Israel amid election tension
Iran is reportedly preparing to carry out an attack on Israel in the coming days, potentially before the U.S. presidential elections, according to a report by Axios on Thursday. The report cites Israeli intelligence sources and suggests that the attack may be launched from Iraqi territory.
According to Israeli intelligence, Tehran plans to use Iraqi territory to conduct the attack with a large number of drones and ballistic missiles.
The Axios report indicates that Iran might employ pro-Iranian militias operating in Iraq. This tactic could allow Iran to avoid a direct Israeli response on its territory. Such a strategy would aim to minimize the risk of further Israeli airstrikes on strategic targets within Iran.
It is important to note that last week, Israeli air forces carried out retaliatory strikes on Iranian targets in response to a rocket attack by Tehran four weeks ago. These strikes significantly impaired Iran's air defense capabilities, including the destruction of numerous radar stations, reducing Iran's ability to conduct further missile attacks on Israel.
