Iowa police halt semi-truck with imploded tank due to valve negligence; warn drivers
A unique intervention took place on the roads of Iowa, a state located in America. While on patrol, the officers halted a semi-truck that, upon immediate inspection, seemed unsuitable for driving. The vehicle's frame was compromised so that the rear axle was no longer touching the ground. The officers prohibited its further use on the road.
Such damage typically indicates the implosion phenomenon, which happens when a tank is emptied. Should a malfunction occur or the driver become distracted, resulting in failing to open the so-called breather valve, an implosion can occur. In this scenario, air does not enter the tank, meaning the low pressure inside can deform the tank.
Following the intervention, the police urged truck drivers who operate with such trailers to ensure to regularly check the valve's proper function. The repercussions of such negligence can be far more severe than a simple tank damage.
