Interview interrupted. Legendary footballer disrupted by water blast
An unexpected incident occurred before Sunday's Manchester Derby. The legendary "Red Devils" goalkeeper, Peter Schmeichel, was a guest in the pre-match studio on the stadium field. At one point, the Dane and other experts had to cope with a sudden blast of water that showered them.
The Sunday match was a sensation in the Premier League. Manchester United had a derby match with local rival team, City, at Old Trafford. The game attracted fans from around the globe.
The match was broadcast, among other platforms, on the Malaysian channel Stadium Astro. The pre-match studio started before the referee blew the first whistle, and featured one of the best goalkeepers in Premier League history, Peter Schmeichel. The Dane played 292 matches for the "Red Devils" between 1991 and 1999, winning five English Championships and the Champions League, among other titles.
As the studio session was underway, the final preparations for the turf at Old Trafford were also taking place. During the broadcast by Stadium Astro, the working sprinklers could be seen in the background. A short video posted online shows the streams of water propelling toward the experts and the production team, and moments later, the majority of the team was forced out from the initial shot frame.
We had a minor sprinkler mishap during our pre-show. Tom Cleverley was the last man standing - the short video was captioned, personalised with a laughing-crying emoticon.
You can see Schmeichel dodging the water jets in the video, along with the soaked members of the production team. Internet users also pointed out the behavior of another former Manchester United player, Tom Cleverley, who stood to the left of the legendary goalkeeper.
Cleverley employed a different strategy than the other studio guests. Instead of attempting to dodge the water jets, he leaned forward, reducing the degree to which his outfit was soaked. By the end of the footage, the Englishman can be seen standing alone in the shot, smiling towards the remaining studio guests.
Sunday's derby will not be fondly remembered by Schmeichel and other Manchester United fans. The "Red Devils" lost 0-3 to Manchester City. Erling Haaland scored two goals, while the final score was set by Phil Foden.
