The animation "Inside Out" first appeared in theaters in 2015. Directed by Peter Docter, the film cost 175 million dollars to produce and earned 857 million dollars worldwide, which stunned many—breaking James Cameron's "Avatar" record in its first weekend. That was something. Critics praised the film, audiences stormed theaters, and it eventually collected the most significant industry awards. A sequel was only a matter of time, and it took nine years to produce. The trailer broke popularity records, as we wrote in a previous article.
"Inside Out 2" conquers theaters
Since early June, viewers can watch the second part of Riley's adventures, guided by her emotions—led by Joy. As Riley grows up, new emotions like Anxiety join Fear, Sadness, Disgust, and Anger. Riley faces a tough time as her mind is in chaos, and the feelings that have shaped her personality over the years must suddenly make room for new ones. Tears are guaranteed at the finale.
"Inside Out 2" perfectly fits the beginning of summer and is already shaping to be this summer's hit. It is breaking box office records.
As reported earlier, Pixar's computer animation earned 155 million dollars in the US during its opening weekend. It's the best opening result achieved this year. It almost doubled the earnings of two titles from March: "Dune: Part Two" (82.5 million dollars) and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" (80 million dollars). The best summer season opening result this year was previously held by "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" with only 58.4 million dollars.
New viewership results are coming in, and they are even more impressive. According to "Hollywood Reporter," the animation is "on fire."
The film earned 724 million dollars after just two weekends of global screenings. Ticket sales are so enormous that it has already surpassed "Dune: Part Two" (which has grossed 711 million dollars). And that's not all. The cartoon could become the most-watched in the history of animated films and make it to the list of the highest-grossing films of all time. It is already noted that the results of "Inside Out 2" from the second weekend are better than what "Barbie" achieved two weeks after its premiere.
In second place at the American box office is "Bad Boys: Ride or Die." The film, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, has grossed 289 million dollars.
