Indulge your sweet tooth with the trending egg yolk coffee recipe

Some time ago, the internet buzzed about the Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk method. Some coffee purists wouldn't call this variant coffee, but nonetheless, the recipe gained substantial popularity. If you're open to coffee experimentation, satisfying your sweet tooth with a cup of tasty coffee with egg yolk is worth a try. Be forewarned; it contains a significant amount of sugar, which, when combined with caffeine, delivers a strong energy boost. However, some may find the coffee excessively sweet.

Preparing Coffee with Egg Yolk

This recipe is similar to the iconic Vietnamese coffee, albeit with a few alterations. The original recipe requires a specific type of coffee and brewing method, but this version simplifies it significantly. Owing to its dessert-like quality, this coffee variant is best enjoyed by itself and not recommended as a meal accompaniment.

Raw eggs are the essential ingredient in the egg yolk mixture. Hence, it's critical to source them from a reliable place as a preventive measure against poisoning. Ideally, they should come from reputable organic suppliers, particularly in rural areas. Also, it's essential to thoroughly clean and scald the eggs before using them.

  • 2 servings of coffee,
  • 2 egg yolks,
  • 3 tablespoons of condensed milk,
  • 2 teaspoons of honey,
  • a pinch of cardamom.

Preparation method:

  1. Scald the eggs with boiling water and then separate the yolks from the whites.
  2. Mix the liquid honey with the yolks until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Slowly pour the condensed milk into the honey-yolk mixture, stirring continuously.
  4. Brew the coffee as per your preference. Each serving should be approximately 5 fluid ounces.
  5. Add the egg yolk mixture to the coffee and sprinkle with a hint of cardamom.

The egg yolk mixture, being denser than the coffee, will float on the surface, creating a two-layer drink. If desired, you can substitute the honey with maple syrup or sugar, and replace the cardamom with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
