Tiramisu is among the most popular desserts from Italy. Traditionally, it's made with cake biscuits, coffee, and a mixture of mascarpone, sugar, and eggs. This mixture, however, tends to be high in calories and may not suit everyone's diet. For those watching their caloric intake, we present a healthier alternative that uses natural yogurt and a sweetener.

Healthy tiramisu: Required ingredients:

  • 21.16 oz of natural yogurt (the thicker, the better)
  • 6 teaspoons of xylitol or another preferred sweetener
  • A few drops of vanilla extract
  • 4.94 oz of ladyfingers
  • Bitter cocoa
  • 4 tablespoons of strong coffee
  • Optional: amaretto liqueur

Preparation

  • Line a 5.9x7.9 inch pan with parchment paper
  • Brew coffee and allow it to cool (ensure the coffee is strong)
  • Dip ladyfingers into lukewarm coffee, then layer half of them at the bottom of the pan
  • In a separate bowl, mix the yogurt, xylitol, and vanilla extract
  • Spread half of the yogurt mixture over the ladyfingers
  • Follow with another layer of ladyfingers, then the remaining half of the yogurt mixture
  • Refrigerate the dessert for a few hours (best if chilled overnight)
  • Dust generously with cocoa before serving
  • Optionally, a dash of amaretto liqueur can be added to the coffee
