A shocking discovery was made in western Germany. Employees of a discount chain found 209 pounds of an illegal substance. This was likely a huge mistake.

Branches of a discount chain in western Germany received banana crates containing a total of 209 pounds of cocaine. The dpa agency reported that employees found packages of the drug among the fruits.

The value of the found cocaine is over 7.8 million dollars on the black market.

The packages with the substance were hidden between bananas, according to police and prosecutors in Moenchengladbach.

The unusual shipment appeared in 11 branches of the food discount chain in Germany.

Employees of two stores in Moenchengladbach discovered that there was something else among the fruits - a psychoactive substance. During the investigation, it was found that crates of bananas containing cocaine were also discovered in Duisburg and Krefeld on the same day.

The drugs that reached the stores were hidden in boxes sent from South America. Investigators believe that the shipment most likely accidentally ended up at the central warehouse of the trading network and was later distributed to various locations.

Drugs among bananas. Where did they come from?

Initial findings indicate that the banana delivery arrived by sea at the port in Antwerp (Belgium). Packages of bananas and cocaine were then distributed to discount stores.

The discovery took place about two weeks ago. However, the police only recently informed the public about it.
