The actor was a prominent figure in the world of cartoons for many years, where he voiced various characters, including He-Man in the series "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" and "She-Ra: Princess of Power," which aired from 1983-1986. Both productions enjoyed significant popularity in the United States and the United Kingdom, despite modest budgets, notes "Mirror".

Erwin was also featured in numerous commercials, and his voice became familiar to anyone who watched the 9Lives cat food commercials, where he voiced Morris the Cat. This role made him one of the most recognizable voices in the USA.

The actor had a rich career that spanned over 45 years. His most recent acclaimed role was in an episode of "Family Guy," where he once again played He-Man when the character appeared in a scene with Brian Griffin.

Erwin’s career began in 1968 when he voiced one of his first roles—grumpy Reggie Mantle in the series "The Archies." His vocal talent caught the attention of commercial producers, leading to the role of Morris, which became the symbol of the 9Lives brand.

Remembering working with John Erwin

Alan Oppenheimer, who voiced Skeletor in "He-Man," fondly remembers John Erwin.

Working with John Erwin was a ballad of irreverence, professionalism and surprise. He was a series actor, writer, performer of commercials, musician, painter and an all-around lovely gentleman, an indelible addition to my life, Oppenheimer said, as quoted by "Mirror".

Erwin passed away on December 20, 2024, but the news was only confirmed by his agent on Friday. He is survived by a loving family—children and grandchildren.
