Barbra Streisand stands as one of the biggest icons in the history of music and cinema. Starting her career in the 60s, she moved from nightclub recitals to theatre, before making her way to television and the music stage. During the 60s and 70s, she was a beacon of pop culture - having her own television shows, stage performances, starring roles in hit films, and even venturing into directing.
A recipient of 10 Grammy awards, the highest form of recognition in the music world, her involvement in the show business has decreased over the years, though she occasionally makes appearances. Undoubtedly, age plays a significant role - Streisand turned 81 this year and believes it's time to focus on herself.
Her autobiography "My Name is Barbra," premiered on November 7th, 2023. In the book, Streisand recounts her difficult childhood with a deceased father and an indifferent mother; her early escape from home; the struggles she faced at the start of her career and other aspects of her life that the cameras didn't capture. She refers to this book as her legacy - and not without reason.
Streisand has revealed that the book's premiere date marks the end of her career. She confesses that until now, her full attention has been on her career, leaving little time to enjoy life. Streisand's desire is to enjoy more time with her family, to lead her own life, free from pressure and commitments. Having debuted as a 20-year-old, this transition is understandable.
"I want to live life to the fullest. I want to jump in my husband's truck and just drive off - I hope, somewhere my children are close by. When they visit, it brings a joy to life. They love playing with dogs, we have fun together. To tell you the truth, I haven't spent much of my life having fun. Now, I finally want more of it," Streisand expressed, as quoted by 'The Daily Mail'.
