Famed television series "Sex and the City" is making a comeback in an unconventional twist. The show will be transformed into a new reality dating program, currently in production.

The HBO series holds a special place in television history and pop culture, through its characters Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, Samantha Jones, and Charlotte York who were icons for many women of the era.

The six-season series, which ran from 1998–2006, inspired two full-length movie adaptations in 2008 and 2010, a teenage-focused spin-off (“The Carrie Diaries,” 2013–2014), and a sequel series. The sequel series, "And Just Like That...," premiered two years ago and its second part was released earlier this year. Its third installment is in the pipeline.

Details of the new reality show

The latest addition to the collection of shows related to the original series is "Is There Still Sex in the City." Set in the countryside, contrary to the "city" reference and series' usual setting, the reality show will echo the characters from "And Just Like That…"

As reported by Deadline, the show will follow four 50+ friends seeking new excitement in love. They bid goodbye to the bustling city life for a tranquil existence in the countryside, complete with a charming castle.

Each episode will introduce a new group of contenders vying for the women’s affection. As the women flirt and kindle romances, the question remains whether any of the contenders could win the heart of one woman enough for her to return to the city with him.

What about the production?

The streaming platform that will acquire rights to broadcast the program remains to be disclosed. The creative brains behind the concept are Bunim/Murray Productions and Candace Bushnell – author of the sex and city living columns/book adapted into the original series and inspiration for character Carrie Bradshaw.

The reimagining of an existing series to fit the format of another type of TV program, in this case, a reality show, is not a new concept. Recently, Netflix's Korean mega-hit series "Squid Game" was refashioned into "Squid Game: Challenge." Additionally, "007: Road to Million," an inspired title, was born from James Bond films, suggesting a potential trend in the television industry.
