The hurricane made landfall on Wednesday evening local time. According to forecasts, Milton will maintain its strength as it moves through central Florida until Thursday morning.

"Hurricane Milton officially made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida at 8:30 PM Eastern Time," reported the National Weather Service in Miami.

"As Hurricane Milton makes landfall near Sarasota county, now is the time to shelter in place. First responders are staged and ready to go, as soon as weather conditions allow. Search and rescue efforts will be well underway to save lives before dawn, and they will continue for as long as it takes," announced Florida Governor Ron DeSantis after 8 PM Eastern Time.

Meanwhile, there is still no shortage of very risky behavior among the residents. During the storm, one supporter of Donald Trump hung a flag with his name. Florida's Voice portal published a video from the surveillance camera on the pier in Naples.

More videos showing the situation in Florida are being published in the media. Reporters from The Weather Channel were filming during the hurricane's impact on the city of Tampa.

Conditions were similar in Charlotte Harbor.

The strong winds are causing significant damage. A video from Palm Beach Gardens shows damaged homes and cars.
