Hungary's Orban praises Trump, calls for peace with Russia

In an interview with Hungarian public radio, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that Hungary has long upheld values currently supported by Donald Trump. Orban emphasized that Hungary, the Vatican, and the USA are among the few countries striving for peace in Ukraine.

"We were Trump before Trump," declared Viktor Orban in his weekly interview. The politician argued that the new American president shares the values Hungary has held dear for years. "The non-binary system is over—there are men and women—and that is good. They mocked the family and Christianity. But now there is Trump, who, like us, says that faith is good," Orban asserted.

During the conversation, Orban expressed satisfaction with the meeting announcement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. "Hallelujah! We've been waiting for this!" declared the Hungarian Prime Minister, adding that Europeans "have proved to be ineffective and paralyzed in recent years, so it's good that Donald Trump has come."

"Only Hungary and the Vatican advocated for peace"

Referring to attempts to end Russian aggression in Ukraine, the guest on the morning show reiterated that so far only two countries have advocated for peace—Hungary and the Vatican. Now, the United States has joined this group.

Orban also hoped that, thanks to Trump, doing business freely with Moscow would be possible again.

"If an American president arrives and creates peace, I think Russia will be reintegrated into the global economy, the European security system, and even the European energy system," he stated. He also added that there is no room for sentiment in politics. "The world of international politics is based on interests and is often ruthless," he explained.

"The EU always desired war"

The Hungarian Prime Minister was critical of Brussels' stance, which demands participation in the negotiation process between the USA, Russia, and Ukraine. "Why should the EU, which has always desired war, be given a place?" Orban asked.

Orban once again opposed the adoption of the EU migration pact. He emphasized that Hungary has managed to avoid illegal migration and would be cheaper to pay fines than to accept migrants. "Trump is doing in America the same thing that we previously did on our borders," Orban added.
