Hungary cancels foreign minister meeting following Orban-Putin talks
According to information provided by Reuters, German authorities claim that Hungary has decided to cancel the meeting of foreign ministers from both countries scheduled for this upcoming Monday.
The meeting was supposed to take place in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. An official from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed the information about the cancellation on Friday.
German MFA "stunned"
The German MFA stated that they are "stunned" by this situation. According to Reuters, German authorities emphasized that a serious and genuine discussion is necessary after the meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which took place on Friday in Moscow.
Scholz sharply criticizes Orban's visit to Moscow
During a Friday press conference in Berlin, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz addressed Orban's trip to Russia.
As reported by the Tagesschau portal, Scholz stated that the Hungarian Prime Minister's visit to Moscow will not affect European support for Ukraine. He added, however, that the political willingness to support Ukraine is not always the same in all countries.
