They are abundant on store shelves and are a staple at parties. Although it is widely known that they are harmful, few people know how detrimental salty snacks are to our health.

The food we consume daily can play two completely different roles. On one hand, it can act like medicine, supporting our bodies and replenishing deficiencies in vitamins and minerals essential for proper body function. This is beneficial.

On the other hand, what we consume can become poison, increasing the risk of developing serious illnesses such as cancer. This is why knowing which potentially carcinogenic products we should pay special attention to is important.

Products considered to be carcinogenic contain harmful compounds such as dioxins, heavy metals, pesticides, aflatoxins, or bisphenol A. These compounds, known as carcinogens, can damage DNA cells, increasing the risk of developing cancer. But where can we find these dangerous substances?

Many of us love salty snacks and dishes—for some, they are integral to parties and gatherings with friends. Unfortunately, they can pose a threat to our health. Salt, one of the main ingredients in these products, increases the risk of developing hypertension and other diseases.

Sodium chloride, the main component of salt, is irritating and can cause microscopic damage to the stomach and esophagus lining. This is why it can increase the risk of developing cancer in these organs.

But that's not all – salty snacks such as peanuts, seeds, or grains may contain aflatoxins, especially if they were stored under improper conditions and mold developed. Aflatoxins are particularly dangerous to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system.

Scientists also consider meat potentially carcinogenic. Frequent consumption of highly processed meat products such as canned meat, sausages, ready-made dumplings with beef, or pâtés is hazardous to our bodies.

Just 3.5 ounces a day of such foods is enough to increase the risk of developing cancer in the pancreas, stomach, or large intestine by one-third. These products also contain chemical preservatives, artificial colors, large amounts of salt, and high fructose corn syrup. This explosive mix poses a health threat.

All these ingredients can cause inflammatory conditions in the body. Additionally, excess meat and foods high in animal fats or palm oil can negatively impact our cardiovascular system.

These products raise cholesterol and triglycerides levels, clog arteries, and increase the risk of developing atherosclerosis. Therefore, we should be cautious of processed meat and grilled, smoked, or fried meat.

What should someone do if they can't imagine life without meat or salty snacks? It's important to remember moderation. While they should not pose a significant threat when consumed occasionally, regular consumption can lead to health problems.
