The unpleasant layer and characteristic "eyes" often result from using overly fatty meat. This can sometimes indicate good quality, as seen with broth made from farm-raised chicken. When these "eyes" appear on the surface, it's not a sign of anything bad; the separation of fat is normal during the cooking process. However, some people prefer not to have a greasy sheen.

Many soups are cooked with a meat component, which means we might encounter too much fat in any of them. To reduce the calories in our dish, there's no need to switch to a veggie soup. Learn how to handle this excess fat without losing flavor and with minimal effort.

A kitchen trick for excess fat in soup

Most of us instinctively reach for a spoon to manually remove excess fat. But there's a simpler way. On her Instagram, one user shares a clever trick for removing excess fat using only a ladle and ice cubes.

What should you do?

1. First, fill the ladle with ice cubes.

2. Next, touch the surface of the soup with the ladle, ensuring the ice doesn't get into the soup. Stir gently.

3. After 30 seconds of circular motion, the fat will accumulate on the ladle.

4. Repeat the process if necessary to remove more fat, based on your preferences.
