Coffee's shelf life is quite long, as it can maintain its properties for up to two years. However, preserving its quality greatly depends on how the beans are stored. Several factors play a role in helping coffee retain its aroma longer.

This is not a good place for coffee

Aromatic, delicious coffee can brighten even a cold, rainy morning. However, proper storage is essential to prevent coffee beans from quickly losing their flavor. A common mistake is storing them in the refrigerator. It might seem that low temperatures are beneficial, but the opposite is true—they lose their unique aroma more quickly. Moisture in the refrigerator also negatively impacts this.

Always tightly sealed

Baristas agree that coffee beans need to be protected from air and moisture. Therefore, the optimal storage location should be cool and dark to preserve their flavorful properties. Baristas emphasize that storing the beans in their original packaging, under appropriate conditions, is a viable option. However, it must be tightly sealed, perhaps with a zip lock closure.

It won’t lose its aroma

If the package lacks such a closure, transferring the coffee to an airtight container is better. Glass containers can work well, but it's crucial to keep them out of light exposure. Ceramic containers are also a good choice. Oxygen, light, moisture, and heat can cause coffee to quickly lose its aroma. That's why it's so important to store it in dry, cool places.
