A sex therapist from Philadelphia decided to share how long the ideal sexual intercourse should last. She shared her observations on TikTok, and her followers were shocked by the results of studies conducted by sexologists.
Shorter doesn't mean worse
Dr. Sonia Maya believes that men last only a few minutes before they ejaculate. The sex therapist claims that from an evolutionary standpoint, quick intercourse and an earlier erection are much better, as sperm spreads more effectively. She added that many men worry about "premature ejaculation". In reality, if it occurs within 5 minutes, it's totally normal.
-The proper definition of premature ejaculation ends after a minute or even less - she explained.
The sex therapist explained that premature ejaculation only occurs when there is no possibility of delaying it and it cannot be controlled. Such an ejaculation can be caused, for example, by stress.
A number of studies have been conducted
According to a survey conducted in 2008, respondents stated that sex lasting from 7 to 13 minutes is the most "desired". However, the indicated time did not include foreplay, but the act itself. Data published in 2019 by the National Institute of Health suggested that men on average need from 5 to 7 minutes to reach orgasm. In contrast, a study conducted a year later showed that women experience orgasm at the 13-minute mark of intercourse.
Clarisa Guerrer, a nurse from Texas, also decided to address the topic of orgasm. In her TikTok video, she emphasized that each of us is different and for some, shorter intercourse is normal.
- Some couples claim that their intimate moments last an hour or longer, however, none of them reach orgasm. In reality, even 50 percent of men cannot last longer than two minutes, - emphasized Guerrer.
The nurse added that how quickly someone reaches orgasm can be due to a number of different psychological and biological factors. Therefore, it is worth considering factors such as age, health status, and hormone levels.
Doctors believe that many people live with the conviction that sex should last as long as possible. Talking about the actual duration of intercourse can eliminate the pressure imposed on the partner and make intimate life more enjoyable.
