On Wednesday, October 9th, Honda announced an official service campaign covering 2 million vehicles in North America due to driving difficulties in some units, which could potentially lead to accidents in extreme cases.
The problem may affect cars manufactured between 2022 and 2025, including models such as the Civic, CR-V, HR-V, and some Acura vehicles. Honda reports that since 2021, it has received as many as 10,328 warranty claims related to this issue.
Of the cars included in the service action, 1.7 million are in the USA, 240,000 in Canada, and 58,000 in Mexico. Their owners will be notified to visit a service center for resolution.
According to an investigation launched by the NHTSA in 2023, Honda's steering gear may experience excessive friction, leading to unnatural resistance and jerky operation. The recommended repair involves replacing a spring in the gear and possibly applying a new lubricant.
NHTSA reports that this defect may be linked to as many as thirteen accidents in the USA. However, no information is available regarding the extent of injuries or fatalities.
