Growing orchids is not for the faint of heart. These plants, although stunning, are very sensitive. When cared for properly, they reward us with beautiful flowers that are hard to look away from. Some windowsills feature a whole spectrum of colors, with flowers in various shapes and sizes.

Orchids can beautify homes for many years, but they often start to wither. In such a situation, ensuring that all care follows the rules is crucial. Orchids thrive in a warm, humid climate, which can be problematic during the winter in Poland. When the heating season begins, dry air can be an issue. Conversely, airing out the room can also harm the flowers.

Orchids are struggling. Here's how you can help them

Around December and January, orchids may start to decline, with limp leaves and slightly soft roots. This might indicate that the orchid is... hungry. When the leaves begin to yellow, it's time to intervene. How can you help your plant?

You can prepare two incredibly simple nutrients at home to help orchids grow beautifully and produce more buds.

Homemade nutrient for orchids? It's simple

Mix half a cup of water with a teaspoon of honey, sugar, and some lemon juice in a jar. Use this syrup to gently rub the leaves, which will soon regain their beauty. The strengthened plant will start producing new buds. It's beneficial to add lemon juice to the watering water occasionally. This will acidify the soil and strengthen the plant.

You can prepare an infusion from red onion peels to further nourish the orchid. Take the peels from two red onions and pour boiling water over them. The next day, after straining, use the infusion to water the plant, using just a few drops each time. Do this once a week. The first effects should be noticeable after two weeks.
