Homemade chicken burgers: A delicious twist on fast food classics

Burgers are one of the most popular fast foods in the world. However, in a homemade version, they become more than just a bun with a patty. Ever since I first served cheesy-onion chicken burgers, no one even wants to hear about ordering this dish out.

Soft buns, juicy chicken breast patties, a bit of lettuce, and a favorite sauce - these burgers are simply impossible not to like. They look great and taste even better. They are perfect for a warm dinner, a party snack, or an unusual hot lunch. Their secret is good bread. Finding the perfect base in the store can be a challenge, so I bake the buns myself at home. They are soft, fluffy, and with the toppings, they create a delicious whole.

Chicken burgers in homemade buns

My secret in this recipe is the perfect bun topped with herb cream cheese. This simple addition enhances the flavor and adds an interesting note to the whole dish. You have to watch the buns before preparing the burger - they taste so good that they disappear before the toppings appear.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried yeast
  • 2/3 cup warm water
  • 1 large onion
  • 3 ounces grated mozzarella
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • herb cream cheese
  • 1 onion
  • 3 ounces mozzarella

Chicken Patties:

  • 1 large chicken breast
  • 2/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons chicken seasoning
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs

Instructions:

Step 1. In a bowl, sift the flour. Add dried yeast, salt, vegetable oil, plain yogurt, and warm water. Knead to form a uniform dough. It's easiest to do this with a kitchen mixer and a dough hook, but it can also be done by hand. Transfer the dough to a bowl, cover it, and set it aside to rise for 2 hours Eastern Time.

Step 2. Cut the chicken breast into smaller pieces and flatten them with a meat tenderizer. In a bowl, mix the eggs with plain yogurt and chicken seasoning. Dip the pieces of meat in the marinade and ensure they are well covered. Set them aside in the refrigerator.

Step 3. Divide the risen dough into smaller parts. Form each dough into a ball, then flatten it with your hands and spread herb cream cheese on it.

Step 4. Finely chop the onion, add grated mozzarella, pepper, and salt, and mix thoroughly. Dip half of the previously prepared buns in the onion mixture so it sticks to the cream cheese spread on the dough.

Step 5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place a disk of dough with just the cream cheese on the sheet, then top it with the onion mixture. Place in an oven preheated to 340°F and bake for 20 minutes.

Step 6. Coat the marinated chicken pieces in all-purpose flour and fry them in moderately deep, heated oil until they brown. Cut the baked and cooled buns in half, add a lettuce leaf, your favorite sauce, and a piece of chicken. Cover with the other half of the bun and serve. Bon appétit!
