The incident unfurled over the last weekend, straddling from Friday to Saturday. The man at the center of the chase - a Belgian truck driver - refused to stop for inspection in his home country and continued driving in the direction of the Netherlands, the police hot on his tail.

With no intent of surrender, he crossed the border and proceeded to ram a police car on Dutch soil. His run ended only upon reaching Germany, in the vicinity of Cologne.

The Dutch-based newspaper "De Telegraaf", recounting this high-speed chase, cited German media reports stating that "the truck continued for approximately 6 miles after the deployment of a spike strip."

Upon his eventual capture, it was revealed that the Belgian driver was under the influence of narcotics. Details about his forthcoming trial – such as where it will take place and what precisely he will be charged with – are as yet unknown. However, the Dutch authorities, due to the damage to their police vehicle, have officially requested his extradition.
