Hezbollah's covert strongholds in Lebanon prompt Israeli strikes

Hezbollah has turned villages in southern Lebanon into military operational points, designed to serve as a base for an attack on northern Israel, modeled after Hamas' actions on October 7, 2023, stated Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Harar.

The Israeli army began "limited and targeted" ground operations against Hezbollah terrorist targets in southern Lebanon overnight from Monday to Tuesday, the Israeli armed forces reported, announcing they would destroy Hezbollah's military infrastructure in villages near the border.

Israel: Hezbollah planned a massacre in the north

"Hezbollah had prepared to use those villages — as staging grounds for an October 7-style invasion," the Israeli armed forces stated in a Tuesday announcement.

According to the official communiqué, Hezbollah planned a "massacre of innocent men, women, and children."

Rear Admiral Harar emphasized that Israel will not allow a repeat of the events of October 7 at any of its borders.

He recalled UN Security Council Resolution 1701 from 2006, which aimed to withdraw all armed forces from southern Lebanon other than the Lebanese army and UN peacekeeping forces. Despite this, as the Israeli military spokesperson noted, 18 years later, Hezbollah remains the strongest non-state army in the world, and southern Lebanon is full of its terrorists and weapons.
