Hezbollah fires missiles into Israel amidst escalating tensions
6:19 AM EDT, August 4, 2024
On Saturday evening, the Lebanese organization Hezbollah announced that it had fired dozens of rockets toward Israel, as reported by AFP. According to the Israeli army, approximately 30 missiles were launched, most of which were shot down. There is no information about casualties.
This attack was intended as a response to recent Israeli military actions in southern Lebanon and as an expression of solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as stated in Hezbollah's communiqué. It was also mentioned that the village of Beit Hillel in northern Israel was added to the target list.
Hezbollah, which controls southern Lebanon and is supported by Iran, has been regularly shelling northern Israel since the outbreak of the Gaza Strip war in the fall of 2023, which in turn has led to Israeli military responses.
There is unrest in the Middle East
In recent days, tensions in the Middle East have significantly escalated following Israel's killing of the military leader of Hezbollah, Fuad Shukr, in Beirut. At the same time, Hamas's political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed in Tehran.
Hezbollah, Iran, and Hamas have announced retaliation for these attacks. There are growing concerns that a potential strike could deepen the existing tensions and lead to open warfare on a new front in the conflict between Israel and Iran and its allies.
