On Friday night, a video that stirred intense feelings among Real Madrid fans went viral. It depicted their legendary defender, Sergio Ramos, autographing shirts with his name. However, he declined to sign a Real Madrid jersey when one was presented to him by a fan. The reason behind his decision is quite surprising.

Without a doubt, Sergio Ramos is considered a living legend at Real Madrid. The central defender represented the "Royals" from 2005-2021, participating in 671 games for the team. With impressive offensive stats for a stopper, Ramos managed to score 101 goals for Real and contributed 40 assists.

The 37-year-old Spaniard, originally from Seville, currently plays for his hometown's club. On Friday, a brief video capturing Ramos' interaction with his fans went viral. The veteran player, who represented Spain 180 times, stopped his car to autograph a few items. In the video, Ramos can be seen signing a shirt from his current club.

Subsequently, a fan presented him with a Real Madrid jersey. Ramos's reaction was unexpected - he declined to sign it, but a moment later he gave his autograph on a PSG jersey (a team he played for from 2021 to 2023). Shortly after, a fan offered him another Real shirt, which Ramos gently moved aside.

This video quickly made its rounds on the internet, and it wasn't long before Real fans started questioning Ramos' actions, asking him why he declined to sign the shirt. Many fans perceived this as a sign of disrespect to the club where Alberto Ramos spent the prime of his career.

Ramos himself quickly put these doubts to rest. On Saturday, he addressed the questions posed by his fans. The Spanish defender clarified that just before the video was shot, he had already signed several other Real Madrid jerseys for this particular fan. He insinuated in his post that such behavior suggests the fan intended to sell these autographed shirts in online auctions.

I had already signed about 6 Real Madrid shirts for him earlier. People then auction these or sell them online... - he briefly explained on his profile on the platform "X".

This practice of getting athletes' autographs for reselling later isn't new. Last October, another video went viral, showing Barcelona footballer João Cancelo hastily autographing jerseys passed on to him by fans. He later explained that the same people often ask for his signature with the intention of selling these valuable souvenirs online.
