Heroic Sister Who Fought Crocodile to Save Twin Awarded by King Charles III
The story of an Englishwoman, Georgia Laurie, and her extraordinary bravery that touched hearts worldwide ends on a high note. Three years ago, in Mexico, Georgia saved her twin sister, Melissa, from a crocodile attack. Her courage will be recognized with an award from King Charles III.
During a June 2021 vacation in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, the Laurie twins were swimming in a river when a crocodile appeared. As they made their way to shore, the reptile attacked Melissa, attempting to drag her underwater.
In a moment of sheer bravery, echoing Bear Grylls, Georgia dove in and fought off the crocodile by punching it in the head repeatedly until her sister was free.
According to CNN, referencing JustGiving, Melissa's injuries were grave, including a complex open wrist fracture, deep abdominal wounds, and bite marks on her legs, foot, and buttocks. Following urgent surgery, she was put into a medically induced coma and battled sepsis, from which she miraculously recovered.
Georgia's valiant rescue will be honored with the Royal Medal of Bravery. This prestigious recognition from King Charles III is bestowed upon individuals who risk their lives to save others.
The sisters are gearing up for the Thames swimming marathon in August. Their participation aims to raise funds for a British humanitarian effort and a Mexican charity that supports needy communities in Chiapas with medical training and aid.
