During the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, the shooter wounded three other people besides the former president. Firefighter Corey Comperatore, who had attended the rally with his daughter, died at the scene.
Allyson Comperatore bid farewell to her father in a very emotional social media post.
Yesterday, time stood still. And when it started again, my family and I began experiencing a true nightmare. What was supposed to be an exciting day, one we were all looking forward to (especially my dad), turned into the most traumatic experience imaginable — Allyson Comperatore began in a Facebook post.
Allyson described her father as a very loving man. She mentioned that she and her sister could always count on him. He was caring and religious. According to her account, the whole family went to the Trump rally together.
The media won't say that he died like a true superhero. They won't say how quickly he threw my mom and me to the ground. They won't say that he shielded my body from the bullet that hit us. He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us. There's nothing I want more than to cry on his shoulder and thank him. There's nothing I want more than to wake up and make this not be my reality, wrote a devastated Allyson.
The young American highlights that the events at the Trump rally have forever changed her and her entire family's lives. Allyson believes her dad is now in a better place.
I will never stop thinking about him and grieving him. Until the day I die. July 13 will forever be the day that changed my life. I will never again be the same person I was just 24 hours ago. Many children say their dad is their hero. But my dad truly is my hero. I don't think I would be alive today if it weren't for him, concluded Allyson's post.
Friends of the Comperatore family have launched a fundraiser on gofundme.com. Initially, they aimed to raise $7,000 to help the widow and her daughters. Within two days, donors have already contributed over $950,000.
