Corey Comperatore, along with his wife and daughter, attended a Donald Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania. When gunshots rang out, he shielded his daughter and wife with his own body. Tragically, his life could not be saved.
Comperatore's funeral occurred in Buffalo Township last Friday, where he was honored as a hero. The American flag covered the casket with his body. According to the "New York Post," after the service, eight firefighters carried the casket out of Cabot United Methodist Church and placed on a fire truck.
Hundreds of mourners could not hold back tears as they watched the long funeral procession, which included motorcycles and fire trucks. CBS News indicates that mourners lining the route were dressed in national colors; many held an American flag.
Before the funeral of the slain firefighter, there were rumors that Donald Trump himself might appear at the ceremonies. However, a person from the former president's entourage, quoted by the "Daily Express US," emphasized that security concerns and Secret Service apprehensions dictated his absence.
Donald Trump paid tribute to the fallen firefighter
During his first speech after the attack, Donald Trump paid tribute to Corey Comperatore. At the Republican convention in Milwaukee, the former president kissed the helmet belonging to the deceased firefighter.
There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for others — Trump said, highlighting the heroic stance of the deceased.
Earlier, Donald Trump called the widow of the deceased firefighter to offer his condolences on her husband's passing personally. "He was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead," wrote Helen Comperatore on social media.
