The factory Ford Mustang of the latest generation, in its Dark Horse edition, is already a track-ready machine. Hennessey, however, decided that the car is mechanically prepared for even greater challenges, as no additional chassis improvements were made for the modified engine with horsepower increased to 850 hp (hence the name).
It is important to note that horsepower (hp) is not the same as metric horsepower (KM). When converted to metric, this Mustang develops 862 KM.
An additional 350 hp over the stock car was achieved in the classic American way—by adding a supercharger along with a new intake system. The fuel pump and injectors were also replaced. The result is 650 lb-ft of torque and acceleration to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds in the version with an automatic transmission. The standard Dark Horse completes the ¼ mile in 12 seconds with a top speed of 118.4 mph. Hennessey improves this result to 10.9 seconds with a top speed of 133 mph.
The tuner from Texas does not mention any other changes, such as those to the chassis. The same applies to the Mustang GT in the 850 edition. There are only visual and aerodynamic additions, such as a carbon composite splitter, side skirts, and a rear spoiler. The wheels were also replaced, and the interior features embroidery on the seats and side panels, as well as a badge.
According to John Hennessey, their Mustangs remain hugely popular with customers, and the higher power and completely new sound thanks to the supercharger is exactly what drivers in the USA most expect.
