Health meets flavor: Sesame-infused carrot coleslaw delight

With coleslaw, too much experimentation is never a real thing. I take great pleasure in innovating it, then observing the reactions of my family. Seemingly, my culinary jackpot was struck not too long ago, as I was asked to remake the same recipe twice. Surprisingly, it was nearly the simplest carrot coleslaw on the planet.

I have never regarded coleslaw merely as a trivial add-on to a cutlet. Indeed, I value the health benefits of this dish and appreciate the wealth of vitamins and minerals accompanying the fried meat, which isn't necessarily beneficial for our health. However, for food enthusiasts like me, combining health benefits with pleasurable tastes is a simple and fulfilling pursuit, which is why investing in flavor is entirely worth it.

Furthermore, I see every new coleslaw as a unique experiment. I have a soft spot for tossing in a few surprise elements to traditional recipes. For instance, to the apple coleslaw I add a pinch of fennel, while I prep cucumber salad with grated pickles. I'm of the firm belief that a minor tweak can make a remarkable difference. That's what led me to prepare the carrot coleslaw sprinkled with a handful of sesame seeds.

What was the outcome of this culinary experiment? Extremely positive. The crunchy sesame seeds gave the carrot coleslaw a fresh perspective. Once tasted, the aromatic sesame becomes an addiction. Give it a try and let me know your thoughts!

  • 4 carrots,
  • a small piece of celeriac,
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds,
  • 3 tablespoons of natural yogurt,
  • 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise,
  • A splash of lemon juice,
  • Salt and pepper to taste.

Method of preparation:

  1. Peel and wash the carrots and celeriac, then grate them using a large-holed grater. Toast the sesame seeds in a dry pan. Be careful, they can burn quickly!
  2. While that's happening, combine the grated vegetables with natural yogurt, mayonnaise, and a few drops of lemon juice. Season it to your liking with salt and pepper.
  3. To wrap up, mix in the toasted sesame seeds. Give it a thorough mix. Serve the coleslaw slightly chilled. Bon appétit!
