Hawthorn is an effective treatment for the symptoms and complications associated with arteriosclerosis. The compounds found in the flowers have a range of health benefits - they help relax the body, increase blood flow, stabilize the heart, and lower high blood pressure.
In addition to strengthening the heart and easing the symptoms of atherosclerosis, hawthorn also acts as a diuretic and can help alleviate allergy symptoms. It's worth considering for headache relief and improving digestion during menopause to reduce troublesome symptoms.
How can you prepare a hawthorn tincture?
We can find a wealth of antioxidant flavonoids, amino acids, phenolic acids, phytosterols, tannins, and triterpenes in hawthorn blossoms. So, it's worth trying to make a tincture yourself.
You will need approximately 1.32 quarts of vodka, 8.45 fluid ounces of honey, and a 1.59-quart jar filled with hawthorn flowers or inflorescences. While you can skip the honey, remember that it also has many health benefits and can significantly improve the taste of the tincture.
The jar filled with hawthorn should be topped up with 1.06 quarts of vodka and then set aside to sit in a dark place for two weeks. In the meantime, mix the remaining vodka with honey in a water bath until well blended. After two weeks, add the mixed vodka and honey to the jar and leave it for another two weeks.
Strain and filter the fluid after a month, then transfer it to a bottle. Let the mixture sit aside and mature for at least three months. After this time, the tincture is ready. For best results, it's recommended that you take two tablespoons in the evening.
Hawthorn isn't for everyone
People with severe heart conditions should consult their doctor before taking hawthorn tincture. Naturally, the mixture is unsuitable for children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
Patients currently on medication should also abstain from the tincture – the alcohol content might interact adversely with their prescribed drugs.
