Hasselback potatoes: The Swedish dish stealing the spotlight
We often think of potatoes as just a side dish. However, they can take center stage and look incredibly impressive. This Swedish recipe has been a surefire hit for me on multiple occasions.
Hasselback potatoes are gaining popularity, but many people are unaware of their origin. They are a traditional dish from Sweden. The hallmark of this recipe is the deeply sliced potatoes, giving them a distinctive accordion-like appearance. They are then baked in the oven with various toppings.
Swedish idea
In Sweden, they discovered a way to make potatoes delicious and visually appealing. Plus, they are easy to prepare. This versatile dish can be quickly made for lunch or dinner. The crispy skin of the potatoes contrasts nicely with the soft interior. Baking at high temperatures achieves their unique taste and aroma, making them very flavorful.
Fillings
Whipping up this tempting dish is remarkably simple. To ensure even baking, choose potatoes of similar size. Peel or scrub them well, then slice them thinly without cutting all the way through. Next, add smoked bacon, onion, and garlic to fill the cuts in the potatoes. Cheese is also a great addition. After brushing them with olive oil and seasoning them with salt and pepper, place them on a baking sheet and bake until golden.
