Kamala Harris is becoming a leader in the White House race. Just over six weeks before the elections, she gained a 5-point lead over Donald Trump in a new nationwide NBC News poll.

According to the latest NBC poll, incumbent U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has a lead among registered voters over Donald Trump by 49 to 44 percent.

This is a significant shift in favor of the Democrats compared to the public opinion poll from July. Trump had a 2 percent lead over the then-Democratic candidate and incumbent president, Joe Biden.

Who wants to vote for Harris?

Kamala Harris has an edge over Donald Trump, especially among Black voters (85-7 percent), voters aged 18-34 (57-34 percent), women (58-37 percent), whites with higher education (59-38 percent), and the independent electorate (43-35 percent).

However, as noted by the poll's authors, other key electorates — including Latinos — have not significantly changed their preferences. Trump still holds a substantial lead on the economy (50-41 percent), as well as on inflation and the cost of living (48-40 percent).

Record fundraising

According to Harris' campaign team, $27 million was raised on Sunday during a Wall Street fundraiser. This is her record since she took over the White House candidacy from President Biden.

An anonymous Harris advisor cited by NBC said that although Harris has significantly more money than former President Donald Trump, funds will be needed to compete with costly advertising from outside groups with extensive resources supporting Trump.

The Vice President announced that she will deliver a speech on Wednesday, in which she will outline her economic vision.

"I’ve named it an opportunity economy, which really, in short form, is about what we can do more to invest in the aspirations, the ambitions, the dreams of the American people while addressing the challenges that they face," Harris assessed. She highlighted the significant costs associated with home maintenance and the persistently high prices of groceries.
