Kamala Harris chose Walz as her vice presidential candidate after Joe Biden decided not to seek a second term. Harris suggested that comparing Walz to Republican candidate JD Vance, who is endorsed by Donald Trump, is like comparing a first team to a reserve team.

The wealth of Tim Walz

From 2007 to 2019, Walz was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. During that time, he declared assets valued at around $600,000. According to "Celebrity Net Worth," he owns a home in Mankato, Minnesota, valued at $250,000 and a rental property worth $125,000.

The value of his real estate comes from 2018, so the current value might vary. Additionally, Walz holds shares in a family farm worth about $50,000.

As the Governor of Minnesota since early 2019, Walz earns a salary of $127,000 per year, which is about $10,000 per month. He also receives a teacher's pension of approximately $8,000 per month. He is a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, associated with the Democratic Party.

Who is Tim Walz?

Walz hails from Nebraska, where he spent his childhood before moving to Minnesota. He is a teacher by education, having formerly worked as a social studies teacher, and he served in the National Guard for 24 years.

Meanwhile, JD Vance, Walz's Republican opponent, reportedly has a net worth of about $5 million according to "Celebrity Net Worth." Vance owns Walmart shares worth approximately $100,000, bitcoins valued at $250,000, and other investments such as shares in Goldman Sachs and the QQQ Exchange Traded Fund, collectively valued at $2 million.

JD Vance's wealth

The total value of Vance's assets is close to $5.6 million. In addition to his salary as a senator, Vance receives royalties from his book "Hillbilly Elegy," which earned him $475,000 in 2021. The book's film adaptation was released by Netflix in 2020.

JD Vance's income as a senator is $174,000 annually, equating to about $14,500 per month. If Trump were to win the election and Vance became his deputy, his monthly salary would increase to $19,500.
