Harpoon penetrates the boy's brain. "Miraculous survival"

Chayathorn Thanksrathok, a 14-year-old Thai boy, suffered from this unfortunate accident on November 19. As reported by "Bild," Chayathorn was fishing among his friends.

In a sudden turn of events, he threw his harpoon with great force at a targeted fish. Instead of hitting its mark, the sharp tool bounced off a rock and struck the boy's head.

The harpoon lodged itself between Chayathorn's eyebrows. His friends immediately alerted the authorities, and an ambulance was promptly dispatched for the teenager.

Having been rushed to a hospital, the first order of medical business was to cut off a part of the metallic rod protruding from the boy's head, which was about 12 inches long. Subsequent X-rays revealed that the harpoon had pierced deep into the skull, penetrating the brain.

The district's medical team at a relatively small hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima ruled that special procedures and additional equipment would be necessitated to secure the young patient's life and health. The decision was, therefore, made to move the boy to a facility specializing in such cases.

Surgeons were able to extricate the harpoon without opening up the boy's skull. The young patient, who has undergone surgery, is now under stringent watch and is recovering. The medical team is closely monitoring his recovery.

The current prognosis is promising. Communication has been established with Chayathorn, who has regained consciousness. "I recall aiming my harpoon at the fish and then there was a sharp pain. I fell in an instant. I am feeling better now, but I won't use a harpoon for fishing ever again," narrated the fourteen-year-old.
