Hacking attack paralyzes Split and Zadar airports, flights delayed
A hacking attack has caused enormous disruptions at Split Airport in Croatia. On Monday evening, the system experienced a complete shutdown, leading to numerous delayed or canceled flights on Tuesday. Such disruptions are also occurring at Zadar Airport.
Since Monday evening, tourists looking to use Split Airport have faced significant challenges. According to the Slobodna Dalmacija portal, the IT system fell victim to a hacker attack.
All flights scheduled to depart after 1:30 PM (Eastern Time) on Monday were either canceled or redirected to other airports. On Monday morning, flights were operating, but travelers still faced difficulties. "Airport operations are hindered due to the lack of IT support, and check-ins are being conducted manually. As a result, departures may also be delayed," stated Pero Bilas, the deputy director of the airport, to the portal. Some flights were completely canceled.
"Professional services are working intensively to eliminate the effects of the hacking attack. We are in contact with all airlines and are jointly seeking alternative solutions. We ask all passengers for patience," added Bilas. It turns out that vacationers in Zadar also had problems departing on time.
Problems at Croatian airports
TVN24 reported that the Ryanair flight meant to depart at 4:45 PM (Eastern Time) to Krakow on July 22, 2024, was first delayed and then rescheduled to the next day at 4:30 AM (Eastern Time).
"Despite assurances from the carrier that they were organizing transportation and hotel accommodations, we were left without any assistance. We are camping out at the airport, sleeping on the floor. The only things we received were water, sandwiches, and an email from the airline about our rights," wrote an internet user on Kontakt24.
