Grinch goes green: Peru police use holiday icon in drug bust

Forget about the Grinch who hates Christmas and does everything to ruin it for people. The green creature has changed professions and is now helping the police in Peru bust drug cartels.

A sensational video from Peru is circulating online. The film shows the Grinch—the grumpy creature from the iconic holiday movie—arresting drug dealers. A Peruvian police officer took on the role of the green creature and led a raid on the headquarters of a drug cartel.

The operation took place a few days before Christmas, so it's no wonder the Peruvian Grinch is dressed in a Santa Claus jacket. The footage shows the creature running through the streets of Lima, the capital of Peru, armed with a sledgehammer slung over his shoulder.

The Peruvian Grinch didn't waste any time. He broke down the door with a sledgehammer and stormed into the building with a group of officers, which was believed to be the headquarters of drug dealers. The police arrested three suspects and seized various types of illegal substances.

In the Peruvian police video, you can see the Grinch handcuffing one of the detained individuals. Then he participates in the search of the house, rummaging through furniture and inspecting a cosmetic bag. Afterwards, he escorts the arrested individuals to a patrol car. After the operation, he poses with a senior police officer, who explains the mission to the camera.

The drug problem in Peru

This isn't the first time the Peruvian police have organized unusual operations against drug cartels. During Halloween in 2023, officers dressed up as characters from horror movies—Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Chucky—and raided the homes of drug dealers.

Peru is the second-largest producer of cocaine in the world. Most of the goods from Peru are sent to South American countries or exported to Europe, the USA, East Asia, and Mexico.
