Grilled chicken wings: Your new barbecue crowd-pleaser
Are you planning a menu for a barbecue and looking for inspiration? I have a great solution for you that always works; these wings will definitely be a hit at your gathering! They gain maximum flavor from a sweet and spicy marinade.
When you think of grilling, the first things that probably come to mind are sausages, pork neck, or kebabs. While these are delicious options, the list of grill delicacies can be much longer. A great example is chicken wings. They're not only tasty but also easy to prepare. You don't need complicated additions to create something special. All it takes is a simple marinade, which you'll find below.
Why is it worth marinating chicken?
Marinating chicken before grilling isn't just about flavor but also enhances the meat's texture. The marinade makes the meat more tender and juicy. This process can be sped up using acids like lemon juice or vinegar, which loosen the muscle fibers. It's also beneficial to add oils and spices that penetrate deep into the meat, enriching its flavor. In our recipe, we go a step further and use butter for fat, alongside other liquid ingredients like passata and maple syrup.
How to make grilled wings?
The key ingredients are not only the poultry itself but the marinade as well. A sweet-garlic mix is an ideal flavor combination for this part of the chicken. When grilling, it's important to follow a few rules. The meat should be at room temperature before placing it on the grill to ensure even cooking. It's also crucial not to dry out the chicken—grilling over medium heat and regularly turning the pieces helps retain its juiciness.
Ingredients for the marinade:
- 1.8 lbs of chicken wings
- 3 oz of butter
- 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
- 2 cloves of garlic, crushed
- 7 oz of tomato passata
- 1 tablespoon of granulated onion
- 2 tablespoons of dried marjoram
- 1 tablespoon of sweet paprika
- 1 teaspoon of salt
Preparation method:
- Start by preparing the marinade. In a pot on the stove, combine butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup.
- Once the butter has melted, add tomato passata, crushed garlic, and spices: granulated onion, marjoram, paprika, and salt. Mix everything thoroughly.
- Place the cleaned wings in a large bowl and pour the prepared marinade over them. Mix well to ensure the ingredients combine thoroughly. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
- After this time, place the wings on a preheated grill. Grill each side for about 10 minutes until they turn golden.
- Serve the wings with parsley, sauces, or dips. A light salad will also make a great addition. Enjoy!
