Greek-style baked potatoes
While boiled potatoes are the dominant side dish in our houses, Greeks much prefer baked ones. With this recipe, it's no wonder, as they taste so good you don't even need a cutlet on the side.
This dish is a celebration of simplicity, as you won't find any fancy ingredients here. You'll find olive oil, which Greece is famous for, oregano typical of Mediterranean cuisine, and, of course, potatoes. It doesn't take much to impress with flavor.
Ingredients:
- 10-12 medium potatoes
- 1 cup of olive oil
- 1 handful of dried oregano
- Salt to taste
Preparation:
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into cubes about 0.5-0.8 inches wide.
- Place them on a baking sheet, pour over olive oil, and mix with salt.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the potatoes for 30 minutes.
- Remove, stir, sprinkle with oregano, and bake for another 15-20 minutes.
These potatoes make a great side dish for meat, fish, or salads. They can also be served as a snack or main dish. Enjoy!
Why use olive oil?
Olive oil is a key ingredient in this recipe, giving the potatoes a unique flavor and aroma. It makes the potatoes crisper and more golden while adding healthy fats that benefit our bodies. Additionally, olive oil helps absorb nutrients from the potatoes and the added herbs, enhancing their natural flavors.
