Gordon Ramsay's secret for perfect fluffy rice revealed

Although in Poland rice is less popular than potatoes, it still remains a common addition to dinner. When preparing it, few people pay special attention to cooking. Typically, it's just a matter of throwing it in water and draining it after about fifteen minutes. However, Gordon Ramsay points out a better way that makes the rice perfectly fluffy.

Gordon Ramsay is not only a Scottish chef but also a television star, cookbook author, and owner of many restaurants. Viewers around the world have come to love him through programs such as "Hell's Kitchen" and "MasterChef." He has confirmed his culinary skills by earning as many as 17 Michelin stars. Ramsay also shares his knowledge on YouTube, where he demonstrates how to cook perfect rice.

How to cook rice?

It all starts with choosing the right rice. Gordon Ramsay suggests opting for the basmati variety. Thanks to its longer grains and lower starch content, it is less sticky. Before cooking, be sure to rinse it thoroughly under cold water to remove starch and any impurities.

The correct water-to-rice proportion is also crucial—use 1.5 parts water for 1 part rice. Remember to start cooking with cold water, not boiling. For about 14 ounces of rice, you need 2.5 cups of cold water. Of course, this does not include the water used to rinse the rice.

Embrace the spices

Ramsay recommends seasoning the rice before cooking, adding star anise, cardamom, salt, and pepper. The cooking takes place covered over high heat, and when the water starts to boil, it’s advisable to reduce the heat and continue cooking by steaming.

This technique is similar to braising, and as Ramsay emphasizes, it is the secret to perfectly cooked rice.

After cooking without lifting the lid, the rice should steam on low heat for 8-10 minutes, allowing it to absorb water and increase in volume. The key to achieving the perfect texture is Gordon Ramsay's braising-like approach. Finally, remove the larger pieces of spices and fluff the rice with a fork.

This way, you'll get perfectly fluffy rice on your plate, free of any mushy consistency. Enjoy your meal!
