The Ukrainian counter-offensive began in June. The progress so far has been laborious, but according to the analysts of the Institute for War Studies, Kyiv's efforts may soon yield significant progress.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which are conducting a counteroffensive in the Zaporizhia region, may gain an advantage over Russian forces and move deeper towards Russian positions in the near future. This is possible because the enemy forces probably no longer control the trench line near the town of Verbov. This observation was presented by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in its latest analysis.

Reports indicate that the aggressor's forces have withdrawn from the fortifications west of Verbovyy, as confirmed by Tuesday's recordings tagged with geolocation data. The significance of this situation for potential future successes of Ukrainian armed forces in the Zaporizhia region was emphasized by General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of the "Tavrida" SZU group. On Wednesday, the military predicted that "good news" would soon come from the Zaporizhia section of the front - reported by ISW.

The road leads to Crimea

At the beginning of June, the Ukrainian army launched a counter-offensive mainly focused in the south of the country - in the Zaporizhia region. The main goal of this operation is to cut off the land connection between Russia and the occupied Crimea, which Russia established by occupying Ukrainian territory along the coast of the Azov Sea.

In August, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to break through the first, considered the most difficult, line of Russian defense in the Zaporizhzhya region. In the second half of September, heavy Ukrainian equipment also appeared beyond the third (last) line of fortifications in the area of Verbovaya. Another area where Ukrainian forces have been making progress is around the town of Robotyne, which lies en route to the occupied Tokmak.
