Dried goji berries may look unassuming, but they significantly impact health. They are packed with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C, which naturally support the digestive system and boost immunity. Moreover, they contain no sugar or artificial additives.

Where goji berries come from

Goji berries are also known as "fruits of longevity" or "red diamonds." They have an orange-red color and are the fruit of the Chinese wolfberry, originating from Asia. Traditional Chinese medicine calls them "happy berries," attributing many health benefits to them. They are a source not only of fiber and vitamin C but also of iron and B vitamins, which support eyesight. Thanks to their strong antioxidant properties, these berries help regenerate the kidneys and improve concentration and vitality.

About 3.5 ounces of dried goji berries provide around 370 calories, and a small teaspoon of these fruits is already 30 calories. However, it's important to remember that they can affect the absorption of certain medications, including anticoagulants, which may increase the risk of bleeding.

How to eat goji berries

Thanks to their delicate flavor, dried goji berries are a great addition to various dishes, from soups and sweet pasta dishes to vegetable stews and casseroles. They are also popular in drinks, smoothies, and baked goods. They can enhance the taste of oatmeal or millet, as well as plain yogurt. It's worth trying them in hot drinks, simply adding them to a tea blend or preparing an infusion from them.

Goji berries are considered a superfood. They not only have impressive nutritional value but also do not require the addition of sugar or preservatives during drying. The safe daily portion of these fruits for adults is about 1/4 cup.

Help during weight loss

Why else is it worth eating goji berries? They help regulate digestion, thanks to the fiber that enhances metabolism. The properties of goji berries are quickly appreciated during weight loss. They have a rich composition and the already mentioned fiber, which ensures a feeling of fullness. After eating them, the sugar level does not increase rapidly. Therefore, they can be treated as a snack between meals or after a workout.
