Giant squid encounter stuns divers off Japan coast
The recording of a giant squid found off the coast of Japan continues to captivate audiences to this day. Although the event took place in 2023, the video still circulates in international media. It shows the oceanic giant, which is 8 feet long.
The video was made in 2023 by diving instructor Yosuke Tanaka and his wife Miki while they were swimming near the city of Toyooka in Japan's Hyogo Prefecture. The footage shows the couple encountering the squid in the water.
Oceanic giant in the recording. "It was very exciting"
Initially, the squid seems small, but at a certain point, its powerful arms come into view, creating a huge impression. The Japanese couple who recorded the sea creature shared their feelings in an interview with AFP.
Yosuke Tanaka described the moment as thrilling, explaining that the sight of the creature moving its tentacles made him imagine how dangerous it might be if it latched onto him and dragged him away.
The squid was 8 feet long. As the portal ladbible.com reminds us, the average height of an adult man is 5 feet 9 inches, and a woman—5 feet 3 inches.
Remarkable appearance of the squid
Although ocean exploration can lead to encounters with various creatures, squids are known to be among the most elusive inhabitants of the deep and typically spend most of their lives many feet below the water's surface.
When people do encounter them, it is usually due to squids being accidentally caught in nets or when they wash ashore. Such a close encounter with this giant is a rarity.
