A near miss from the tragedy: A giant Christmas tree falls toppled by strong winds

The Romanian city of Brașov proudly showcases the tallest natural Christmas tree every year in this part of the globe. However, pride turned into disappointment this time when a strong wind toppled the giant decoration. Remarkably, there are no reports of casualties.

A mighty fir tree was erected in the Brașov market square as early as November 13.

The tree intended to grace the central Piața Sfatului square in Brașov is one of the tallest firs in the area. The lights were ceremoniously lit on November 29.

On November 13, the fir, which grew on the communal agricultural lands of Poiana Brașov, was transported to the city market. The authorities proudly showcased the large Christmas tree on their Facebook page even before it was fully decorated.

The Christmas tree fell to the ground, surrounded by bystanders

The top of the Christmas tree stood 85 feet above the square's surface. The tree itself was 95 feet tall, as reported by the organizers of the Christmas festivities inauguration in Brașov, indicating it was anchored 10 feet deep in the ground.

Unfortunately, this anchoring was insufficient to secure the tallest festive installation in the town's history and all of Romania. On Monday, the wind toppled the 37,000-pound fir.

In a video posted on platform X, the massive tree is falling to the ground. It was a near miss from tragedy. The heavy holiday decoration crashes down amid many bystanders.

Large red baubles are scattered everywhere. It is evident that representatives of the emergency services quickly arrived on the scene. With disbelief, officials approached the fallen gigantic Christmas tree.
