A new American giant will be directed to the eastern regions of the Mediterranean Sea. Information published by The Wall Street Journal and Politico suggests that the American command has decided to assign the role of deterrent against Israel's enemies to the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. Its size, capabilities, and history make it perfectly suited to fulfill this role.

The United States is one of the countries that has most decisively responded to the Hamas attack. Not only did they clearly side with Israel, but they also declared specific support. Besides sending ammunition and promising to provide weapons, a naval strike group consisting of the world's largest aircraft carrier and several accompanying destroyers was redirected to the vicinity of the Israeli coast. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, though older than the USS Gerald R. Ford, is equally impressive.

USS Dwight D. Eisenhower with a new mission

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is the second Nimitz-class ship, a series of so-called supercarriers powered by nuclear propulsion, seen as a symbol of the military power of the United States. It was launched in 1975, entered service in 1977, and remains in active service, participating in various missions.

It remains one of the largest warships afloat. Measuring as much as 1094 feet in length and over 131 feet in width, while featuring a displacement exceeding 110,231 tons.

The standard air crew here includes 60 aircraft and helicopters, but if necessary and considering specific machines, it can be increased to even 90. The crew is made up of over 3,000 sailors. The aircraft carrier is also armed, including with SeaSparrow missile launchers, which were not discontinued in the USS Gerald R. Ford or the Vulcan Phalanx anti-missile set (six-barreled guns cal. approximately 0.79 inches).

USS Dwight D. Eisenhower is an American record holder

Throughout all the years of its service, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was heavily exploited. This has led to the fact that the groundwork has already been laid for transition to newer units (USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carriers), but also to the achievements that may be unbeatable over the years.

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower ranks second in terms of the number of landings serviced (recently exceeding a barrier of 326 thousand). Only the USS Nimitz, an older ship of the same class, ranks higher.

In 2020, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower proved to be unbeatable in terms of continuous sea stay. The aircraft carrier and its crew did not dock in ports for as long as 206 days.

Directing the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower to the eastern regions of the Mediterranean Sea will be an unusual move from American command. Two massive aircraft carriers, accompanied by cruisers, destroyers, and fighter jets as part of their strike groups, in the same region will serve as a very clear warning signal to Hamas.
