Drones in rescue operations and on the front

Rescuers and police officers have long utilized drones in their work. These machines can reach places that humans cannot.

Drones are also appearing more frequently on the front lines. As WP journalist Sławek Zagórski noted, on September 13, 2022, the Russians used Iranian Shahed 136 drones on a large scale for the first time. The targets were military facilities and critical infrastructure in the Kharkiv region.

Since then, the scale of these strikes has systematically increased. While in February 2023, the Russians launched only 45 Shaheds, by June 2024, the number had escalated to 426 drones, in September 2024 to 1,338, in January 2025 to 2,599 units, and in February to 3,902. They employed both Shahed 136 drones and their Russian clones, Geran 2.

With the rapid advancement of drone technology, the production of weapons to counter them is also accelerating.
