Germany's Defense Minister has reported that Russia is producing a surplus of weapons amid the Ukraine conflict, aiming to bolster its arsenals. Boris Pistorius expressed concerns over the motivations behind Vladimir Putin's actions, suggesting they may not be purely defensive.

The German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius highlighted that Russia's weapon production far exceeds its immediate wartime needs, noting that the country's military-industrial complex is focused on stockpiling.

Pistorius underscored the significant increase in weapons spending and the enhancements in the military economy, indicating that "a considerable portion of the weaponry is no longer destined for the frontline but for stockpiling.

"While one might naively believe that Vladimir Putin is acting solely out of caution, I'm inclined to view this as an indication of further belligerent intentions or the possibility thereof," the German official remarked.

Is Germany bracing for conflict?

The Defense Minister advocates for the armed forces to be "war-ready." He underscored his commitment to reforming the military structure to achieve readiness by this fall, less than a year after he assumed his role.

"The aim is to overhaul the Bundeswehr's structure to ensure optimal preparedness for any severe eventualities, including war," Pistorius told reporters.

The federal government's innovations include elevating cybernetics and computing to the same status as traditional military branches like the Navy, Air Force, and Army. This year, Germany has allocated $73.41 billion for defense expenditures.
