"The New York Times" reveals Germany's move towards gearing up for an extended stand-off with Russia, derived from an analysis of political statements.
Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has started alerting that Germany should rapidly rebuild its armed forces. This action is emplaced in light of the event that Vladimir Putin does not halt at the Ukraine border.
Nonetheless, in the years following the Soviet Union's fall, most Germans have gotten used to the idea that their country's security would be guaranteed by cooperation with Russia and access to an open Chinese market, "NYT" reports.
"Even today, Scholz, a Social Democrat, a party traditionally favoring strong Russia ties, seems hesitant to discuss a direct confrontation with Russia or China." - it is noted.
Germany headed towards major confrontation
A few days earlier, the Head of the Territorial Command, Lieutenant General André Bodemann, outlined a plan to the German Press Agency (dpa) for improved integration of actions between the security services, crisis response, and industrial guards.
Dmitrij Peskov responded to these developments, emphasizing that Moscow will meticulously scrutinize these plans considering "Berlin's belligerent stance".
- It's no secret that Germany is veering towards a significant confrontation with Russia - affirmed the Kremlin spokesperson.
