The survey highlights German division on the potential European peacekeeping mission to Ukraine. Released on Tuesday by the Forsa Institute, the findings reveal that 49% of those surveyed are in favor, while 44% oppose the plan.

Additionally, 7% of respondents expressed no opinion on the matter.

Differences among voters of different parties

The survey also reveals significant differences in opinions among supporters of various political parties. Voters of populist parties, such as the left-wing Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (89%) and the right-wing Alternative for Germany (83%), strongly oppose the Bundeswehr's participation in the mission.

Conversely, supporters of the Greens (77%), the conservative bloc CDU/CSU (59%), the social democratic SPD (54%), and the Left (52%) show support for the mission.

Like many other European leaders, Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that discussions on sending a European peacekeeping mission to Ukraine are premature.
