On Tuesday, the German Minister of Defense is visiting Stockholm. He is scheduled to meet with his Swedish counterpart, Pål Jonson, to sign an agreement on strengthening defense cooperation.

The German Minister of Defense shared his concerns about a potential Russian attack on NATO territory. Pistorius stated, "This means we must do everything to prevent Moscow from winning the war against Ukraine."

"Therefore, we will support Ukraine for as long as necessary," he announced. "Secondly, we must ensure our military is positioned in such a way that deters Putin from initiating a war with NATO," he added.

Pistorius noted that Germany, together with its allies, "is determined to defend every inch of NATO territory."

"With Sweden, and earlier Finland, joining the Alliance, the Baltic Sea will largely be surrounded by NATO countries. This significantly strengthens our strategic position, especially for the Baltic states, which are the most vulnerable to an attack from Russia," he pointed out.

"Dagens Nyheter" reports that from 2027, 4,800 soldiers of the Bundeswehr and 200 civilian employees are planned to be stationed in Lithuania. The accession of Sweden to NATO simplifies the Alliance's troop movements to the Baltic countries in case of an escalated threat.
