British actor Joseph Gatt rose to fame largely due to his role in "Game of Thrones." The series, produced by HBO over eight years, made several actors household names long after its finale in 2019. Gatt's involvement in this mega-production earned him a large social media following, with over 20,000 followers just on Instagram.
In April 2022, Gatt was accused of a crime related to child exploitation. The case is still unresolved.
Gatt was arrested on April 6, 2022, when police carried out a search of his Los Angeles home under a court order. The actor was released the same day on a $5,000 bail, although the accusations stand. Gatt is charged with having 'erotically charged interactions' with a minor. The Los Angeles police department's child crimes unit picked up the case. During the search of Gatt's home, they also found illegal weapons, leading to additional charges.
The court prohibited Gatt from making contact with minors except under supervision, using social media unless for work purposes, and possessing any form of pornography. British media have reported that the police are actively seeking potential victims of Gatt's actions. Addressing the matter on social media, Gatt stated:
"These shocking and utterly false allegations against me demand a response. I emphatically deny them in their entirety. (…) I am fully collaborating with the police in their investigations. I'm awaiting the moment my reputation is restored."
Early in December, Gatt and his partner attended a preliminary hearing in Los Angeles. The official hearings are due to start on December 18, when more details regarding the alleged crime will hopefully be revealed. When asked by the press about his response to the charges, Gatt replied, "I'd like to comment now, but my attorney has recommended against it at this time."
